Professional Experiences Drive the Management
and Breeding Philosophies:

Early professional work centered on preventive medicine and nutrition programs and their relationship to productivity in the dairy herd. This early, i.e. 1960's, obsession with productive parameters in the dairy cow created an intense desire to translate this into our Angus breeding operation which was begun in 1960.

Meadow Mist Farms ACQUIRED and used BULLS FROM early PERFORMANCE HERDS before the advent of open A.I.. The herd has been on the Angus Herd Improvement Records system since its inception in 1972. More than 2000 Meadow Mist bred cattle are currently in the American Angus Association data base.

MEASURING PERFORMANCE has been the forte with INTENSE PARTICIPATION IN CENTRAL BULL TESTS. Individual bulls as well as sire groups HAVE WON NUMEROUS test station COMPETITIONS wherever they were entered OVER A PERIOD SPANNING MORE THAN 30 YEARS. Later years saw the development of the Meadow Mist Farms in herd testing and marketing programs.

The nutritional management of the herd for the past 8 years has been one of intensive rotational grazing for 6 months of the year and selective grazing for the winter. Supplemental hay or haylage is fed as required. Calves are creep fed whole oats from 4 to 7 months of age.

Intensive SELECTION is applied for DISPOSITION, UDDER QUALITY, FEET AND LEGS.

Burleigh has sired the following progeny:

Timothy: Yale Law School - Partner Pepper Hamilton
Elizabeth:  University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine - Dermatology
Karen:  Penn State School of Medicine - Family Practice
