Genetic Alliance Decision Support System

The PURPOSE of the Genetic Alliance Decision Support System is to HELP the Genetic Alliance Breeders MAKE breeding DECISIONS TO SUPPORT the genetic requirements of OUR CUSTOMERS.

This process REQUIRES making a historical ANALYSIS of the results of the PREVIOUS 5 TO 6 YEARS breeding decisions, as well as taking a "crystal ball" approach to the NEXT 10 YEARS.  Historical inputs include factual data coming from the PMB Test, the PMB Sale Selection Decisions, and the acceptance level of previous breeding decisions as determined by sale value comparisons.

Additional historical information comes from previous Customer Genetic Evaluation Trial data, and from the Customer Decision Support System.  This data can be incorporated into trend analysis and is very useful for forecasting future requirements.

GENETIC CHANGE in the cattle business IS SLOW and requires patience.  Consider the timetable below:

The process MUST BE UPDATED at least annually AS the most recent HISTORICAL DATA BECOMES AVAILABLE, and as NEW TECHNIQUES for ANALYSIS of the ECONOMICALLY RELEVANT TRAITS become available.

As can be seen, the LENGTH OF TIME required to get factual feedback information presents a substantial IMPEDIMENT TO genetic progress.  The PMB - KCR Sire Discovery Program has been DESIGNED TO SPEED-UP the process by utilizing bull calves to generate feedlot equivalent information, and by utilizing ultrasound scanning, to obtain carcass composition data for both bull and heifer calves.  Thus, both Profit Maker Bulls Genetic Alliance Members, and our customers, will have substantial USEFUL DATA available IN YEAR 2.

By making the bull calves who graduate from this program available to our customers, they have the CHOICE of using SONS of the most PROVEN BULLS that the breed has identified, OR of using the first sons of YOUNG BULLS whose siring ability has been PROVEN to APPROXIMATE OR SURPASS that of the HIGH ACCURACY PROVEN REFERENCE SIRES.
